Aprons Make Chores Better!

Here I am, tired on a busy morning. I have tons of school work and cleaning to accomplish before we go off skiing for the weekend. (This is our third year in Colorado, and only the first year we have skied, because we’re usually just barely getting through the week, without adding a lot of driving and exercise to the mix.)

But when I get myself to make coffee, put on some music, and this adorable apron that my talented little sister made me for a wedding, gift doing dishes without a dishwasher becomes a lot more tolerable. Almost fun! (Okay, that’s a lie!)

I love my pink dish gloves and various aprons. Aprons are especially important for me because we’ve lost the little round thingy that goes on the end of the faucet to direct the flow of water, so I always end up completely soaked in the front after doing dishes by hand. (I’ve also managed to break about 15 glasses this year. Housework is not my strong suit!!!!!! Hence, my extreme need for motivational attire.)

found your site via EC! I had to comment I LOVE aprons too! I just feel more house cleany when I wear one! Yours is adorable! I have an old white one but I’d love something like that

Thanks for the compliment! I hope you find a cute apron soon. I’m just so impressed that my sister made this without a pattern (although the pockets are more decorative than functional. LOL!). I started making an apron three years ago, got the pockets and the lace trim on, but then got discouraged when I tried to add the waistband. I just couldn’t get it to sew on securely with all the gathering. Hopefully I can finish it someday and post pictures of it. I plan to give it to my older sister for a gift.

Keep your eye out for cute old-fashioned aprons at second-hand stores. I’ve gotten two from my mother’s collection this year, and I have found one or two myself. I’ve really become addicted to wearing them and I like to have various ones to wear depending on my mood and whether it clashes with what I’m already wearing.

I found your blog from the FlyLady forums.

I love aprons too. I have a bunch of vintage ones I got from secondhand stores & ebay, and a few I made myself [2 long ones with full skirts for gardening & heavy chores, and a "cleaning apron" which a bunch of pockets to hold various rags & tools]. They seemed to have been a big trend a few years back, so it’s easy to find some really neat ones.

Your apron makes me smile. Perhaps I would be more inclined to by joyful about my housework if I had such a cute one! I’ve been checking out your recent posts and want to tell you that I am also very interested in achieving “domestic bliss, eventually” — great tag line! I am not a compulsive hoarder, but I am so sympathetic to that plight and have my own struggles with clutter (infrequently document on my second blog).

I’m excited to keep reading. Thanks for stopping by NTB.

Your title to this post brought a smile to myself. Oilcloth apron- this is the key to not getting your midsection soaked during dishes. My girlfriend got me one for my bday last year and I thought it was silly, because I’m a wiper (use the apron as a towel when my hands get dirty while cooking) so the oilcloth seemed silly. But you bet your bottom dollar I use this betty for doing dishes!
